Take away their Power
  • GodsWatchDog November 2011 +1 -1 (+3 / -0 )
The Top 1% have all the power because Money=Power, so what would happen if the 99% decided Money=Nothing, the 1% lose all power.
  • whitefeather November 2011 +1 -1
First - you have to get the whole of the 99% to agree Money=Nothing. Lot of people are still working and living a fairly decent life. They are going to buck you every step of the way.
Second - If money=nothing, what will you give in return for the goods necessary in order to survive?

As much as I would love for the 1% to lose their power I don't think you would get very far with this idea unless you could come up with an alternative bartering system. IMO
  • GodsWatchDog November 2011 +1 -1
I agree, a new system is needed. Money only has the value we assign to it, and with the current system money is already heading toward equaling nothing more than decorative toilet paper. Before that happens it would be nice if steps were already being taken to establish that bartering system to maintain societies progress otherwise it will be back to the basics; food, water, shelter and security.

There is no contradiction of Starving the Beast, as I have proposed, and being a good, productive, and faithful Employee to your local Business Enterprises and Partnerships. We are concentrating on the Multinational Corporations, their goods and services and the Stock option that they employ in semblance of The People. They say they are People and that the Law forbids our interfering in their Free-Enterprise; but the Law does not forbid our Value to NOT support their goods and services with our Money! The Courts intend to overthrow the health-care law for this very reason: You can't compel the People to purchace a Free-Market, or any goods or services (except car insurance!!!)).

So, yes, yes, yes...employ your energies in the interests of your Family...true family values are communal, shared, interdependant, necessary and natural...and Model your behavior Locally to serve your Communities with Generosity and Example.

We, for One encampment site, have a communal living Encampment called BeingQuestOccupy in Dassel, MN. (where 4 occupiers presently live for under Market rent, the Property privately owned by BeingQuest Academy of Arts, a registered Minnesota Publication and Media Enterprises Business since 08'), sharing kitchen and bathroom and laundry room, plus storage, a 600sqft raised Garden and 600gallon Aquaduct and Cistern to supply all water for the Garden, supplying vegetable staples at the local Farmers' Market and looking to provide our Hamlets food needs locally through Farmers, Ranchers and all other supplies logistics as Coooperation requires.

We shall then, next year, make our Occupy Encampment mobile, for short stints throughout the State of Minnesota and State/National Parks, as well as City Parks, for Communications Events, Festivals of Free Association (NO NEED FOR PERMITS!!!) with all the accompanying Sanitation, Clean-up and Recycling, Transportation, First-Aid, Hazmat Response and Evacuation Protocols to serve Our Purposes.

In Occupy Omaha we have a "Buy Nothing Day: Don't Shop Swap Day" organized so there are many initiatives and amazing ideas yet to take a viral spread across the world, that I have a feeling are soon to be manifest in this growing emergence.

Why do you connect me with all these people and ideas? from what i've read, you will settle for repairs and changes that are far from the long term solutions we need.
Any view I represent is a simple rendering of constitutional powers used correctly.
Here's hoping any reply will create actual discussion.

have you ever seen the scene in the Princess Bride with the poison goblets? You seem to be analyzing me like i'm the iocane Vizzini's wine.

Man in Black: All right. Where is the poison? The battle of wits has begun. It ends when you decide and we both drink, and find out who is right... and who is dead.
Vizzini: But it's so simple. All I have to do is divine from what I know of you: are you the sort of man who would put the poison into his own goblet or his enemy's? Now, a clever man would put the poison into his own goblet, because he would know that only a great fool would reach for what he was given. I am not a great fool, so I can clearly not choose the wine in front of you. But you must have known I was not a great fool, you would have counted on it, so I can clearly not choose the wine in front of me.
Man in Black: You've made your decision then?
Vizzini: Not remotely. Because iocane comes from Australia, as everyone knows, and Australia is entirely peopled with criminals, and criminals are used to having people not trust them, as you are not trusted by me, so I can clearly not choose the wine in front of you.
Man in Black: Truly, you have a dizzying intellect.
Vizzini: Wait till I get going! Now, where was I?
    Man in Black: Australia.
Vizzini: Yes, Australia. And you must have suspected I would have known the powder's origin, so I can clearly not choose the wine in front of me.
Man in Black: You're just stalling now.
Vizzini: You'd like to think that, wouldn't you? You've beaten my giant, which means you're exceptionally strong, so you could've put the poison in your own goblet, trusting on your strength to save you, so I can clearly not choose the wine in front of you. But, you've also bested my Spaniard, which means you must have studied, and in studying you must have learned that man is mortal, so you would have put the poison as far from yourself as possible, so I can clearly not choose the wine in front of me.
Man in Black: You're trying to trick me into giving away something. It won't work.
Vizzini: IT HAS WORKED! YOU'VE GIVEN EVERYTHING AWAY! I KNOW WHERE THE POISON IS!
Man in Black: Then make your choice.
Vizzini: I will, and I choose - What in the world can that be?
Man in Black: [Vizzini gestures up and away from the table. Roberts looks. Vizzini swaps the goblets]
Man in Black: What? Where? I don't see anything.
Vizzini: Well, I- I could have sworn I saw something. No matter. First, let's drink. Me from my glass, and you from yours.
Man in Black, Vizzini: [Vizzini and the Man in Black drink]
Man in Black: You guessed wrong.
Vizzini: You only think I guessed wrong! That's what's so funny! I switched glasses when your back was turned! Ha ha! You fool! You fell victim to one of the classic blunders - The most famous of which is "never get involved in a land war in Asia" - but only slightly less well-known is this: "Never go against a Sicilian when death is on the line"! Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha! Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha! Ha ha ha...

I like it, society is so addicted to spending money that people have been conditioned to believe ( No Money=Death ). If we the people could build up a tolerance to this poisonous idea we could overcome those who would rather perpetuate a failing system. Books already exist on bartering and anyone who has ever traded anything knows it's not really that complicated. So much potential energy, we just need to take action to move away from a monetary system that is at the root of so many problems we face today. Any one of us can easily feel overwhelmed, we need to revive the idea of what community actually is.

If you have something that is broken, how many times do you try to fix it before you finally cut your losses and replace it. Definition of insanity, keep doing the same thing over and over again and expect different results.

    Well...Einsteins definition, anyway...and a good one.

I think its very important to recognize that you don't need 99% of anything to cause significant economic impact. Say that 25% of the country didn't buy fuel for a solid week in a coordinated effort, or that we stepped outside of the current matrix of society and began a barter system; these things would have huge impacts. I feel we need to focus on decisive action city by city, in local groups that will add up to be under 99% but well beyond whats necessary to impact the 1%. If we can create hard dates so that city groups can solidify and stand united as state and local governments did against us, we have a real chance.

If you look at some of my other posts, i am strongly urging Occupy members, and those standing on the sidelines thinking about getting involved, to create an unarmed "Occupiers Security Force." I believe it is necessary to keep us safe from the small percentage of individuals looking to prey on protestors from within, but most importantly to stand prepared to go toe to toe UNARMED with police when they feel like ignoring the constitution and assaulting legal protestors/citizens.

    @durandus

Thank you so much for this! We are on the same page!!! Keeping us a separate but closely knitted entity from the protestors is EXACTLY what I had in mind. I'm at work right now, but will ponder on this and write back some more thoughts soon. You are also SPOT ON, in stating the need to have constitutional lawyers litigate on our behalf to make sure we are operating legally and publicly under the rights guaranteed by our constitution.

I am in the process of abandoning my traditional home living for a mobile travel trailer that would allow me to move all over the country for training and organizational efforts. Must be self-sustainable and mobile in my opinion...besides mobile command centers will be paramount.

Looking forward to helping create this peaceful revolutionary force
