    Cleveland is currently getting swarmed.
Police aggression levels on a scale of 1-10 (1 being timid - 10 being lethal)
It's probably a 4 right now. Haven't seen any intentional violence other than people being dragged away unwillingly.

Earlier today Cincinnati was raided. The police were a 3. It was the most cooperative mass arrest I've seen yet. Everyone was so polite to each other. Kinda strange actually. I love the passion out there though.

Occupy Melbourne got fucked today! I'd say the police we're at a 7-8.
Cops on video punching people in the face. There are reports I have yet to find that mounted police were trampling people. & those crazy Aussies responded with the chant "Get those animals off the horses." The cops would sprint towards the crowd and snag one person at a time in groups of 6 or more. It got really rowdy. One guy clearly got a broken nose.. not sure how. I did enjoy the indymedia article explaining how the Aussies began to sing "We all live in a fascist regime." to the tune of "Yellow Submarine." Kill em with kindness!

  • Wait! Looks like Oakland and Vancouver are also facing arrest tonight! I am searching for streams right now.

Occupy Vancouver was hosting Tom Morello in concert, not sure if that's still going on.

I call on anyone reading this to do what they can please. Thank MV for watching out it sounds like they are really cracking down. Thanks for the links and keeping people aware.
I hope we have video of all off this, and if it doesn't get coverage we should know for sure what is going on. What brave souls. That's it I am inspired. I will find a protest some where and see if they will arrest me, first I'm gonna find somebody to record it. I don't know when, and I have some things not allowing it just yet, but this is how it begins. Don't they know they are only strengthening this cause? Will go to jail for justice. That is awesome.

It is another scare tactic. They love using them. I hope everyone stays right where they are at and let themselves be arrested. You won't be in jail for long and then you can head right back to the movement.

    6 arrested in Tampa
  • gavemehope October 2011 +1 -1
I hope they are all requesting trials by jury, it's a way to fight the fine, and a way to discourage them by flooding the system.

"Mayor Bloomberg is planning Draconian new measures to crack down on what he calls the "disruption" caused by the protesters at Zuccotti Park, and he is citing neighbors' complaints about noise and mess." That was Saturday.

The more they fight our first amendment rights, by thinking money influencing our politics and justice system is the power and law of the land . The less powerful they become, by proving these things to be true that we are loosing our liberties by the day. The constitution was here long before these men. It will be here after.
  • @skoalbite

The right to peaceably assemble is on par with the right to free speech as per the United States Constitution and the United States Supreme Court. (see) De Jonge v. Oregon (1937)

I have offered my services to the Occupy Seattle folks for legal research and offer the same to Occupy New York and Occupy Wall Street.

    (see) Thornhill v. Alabama (1940)
The Supreme Court held that orderly union picketing that informs the public of the issues is protected by the constitutional freedom of speech and of the press and the right of peaceable assembly and cannot be prosecuted under state loitering and picketing laws.

    (see) Hague v. C.I.O. (1939)
The high court ruled that peaceful demonstrators may not be prosecuted for "disorderly conduct." This case also secured streets and sidewalks as public forums.

(see) De Jonge v. Oregon (1937)
De Jonge was convicted for conducting a public meeting under the auspices of the Communist Party. De Jonge had not advocated any illegal activity or criminal doctrine. The U.S. Supreme Court reversed his conviction as unnecessarily restrictive of his freedom of speech and right of peaceable assembly. The high court's ruling applied the right of peaceable assembly and the right to petition the government for a redress of grievances to the states through the Fourteenth Amendment. And put these rights on equal footing with freedom of speech and the press. "[P]eaceable assembly for lawful discussion cannot be made a crime. The holding of meetings for peaceable political action cannot be proscribed."

(see) United States v. Cruikshank (1876)
The Supreme Court said that the "right of the people peaceably to assemble for the purpose of petitioning Congress for a redress of grievances, or for any thing else connected with the powers and duties of the national government, is an attribute of national citizenship, and, as such, under the protection of, and guaranteed by, the United States." The high court applied the liberty only to any federal government's encroachment.

(see) Edwards v. South Carolina (1963)
In an 8-to-1 decision the high court overturned the breach of the peace convictions of 180 black students who had peacefully marched to the state capitol to protest discrimination. The police stopped the demonstration and arrested the students because they were afraid that the 200-300 who gathered to watch the demonstration might cause a riot. The court held the state law unconstitutionally overbroad because it penalized the exercise of free speech, peaceable assembly, and the right of petition for a redress of grievances. A disorderly crowd, or the fear of one, cannot be used to stop a peaceful demonstration or cancel the right of peaceable assembly.

    (see) Cox v. Louisiana (1965)
Rev. B. Elton Cox was arrested and convicted for breach of the peace in Baton Rouge, La., for leading a demonstation of 2,000 black college students from the state capitol to the courthouse to protest the jailing of 23 other students for attempting to integrate white lunch counters. The high court overturned his conviction, 7-to-2, and held the state's breach of the peace law overly broad.

There are many more cases involving free speech and the right to peaceably assemble.

We are the few and the few are the many.

Dear Nobody Important, every one of the 99% percent is someone important! Thanks for your help.
  • gavemehope October 2011 +1 -1
That is so awesome. We often forget their hands are tied by the same money we are fighting. We are fighting for their jobs too, that are many times for inexplicable reasons the first on the block for cuts. On the Occupy marines post they requested that we should not hold hostility to them but quite the opposite, to offer them beverages. May be a good plan.
  • marchelomarchelo October 2011 +1 -1 (+1 / -0 )
    @Vdj That is fantastic news!!
We should send them a little something to say "thanks for protecting the peace".
    :)

    Agrees: Vdj

  • marrand October 2011 +1 -1
    @Vdj and @marchelo:
Perhaps too early to celebrate. The decision NOT to arrest was made by someone in the government who understands police. They in effect rebuked the Governor and the mayor:

"The bottom line is the police know policing, not the governor and not the mayor"

Two guys in far away offices, sitting behind their fat desks made decisions about peoples' activity in the streets!!!. Shows you how dumb they are. Lower level official corrected their bosses. Maybe in this case we didn't face the real adversary - only distant elected officials.
