A unifying logo

I have seen different logos on OWS related web sites including the goggle wearing person on @Adbusters web site and the clenched fist ala the Black Panthers. Those two images in particular are not doing it for me. I picture a very simple image of a bull fighter with a cape (in reference to the raging bull chosen by Wall Street) but whatever it is I think this movement needs a symbol we can rally behind. Ideas?

@marchelo No solution inherent in that logo. Strikes me as an expression of futility not hope. Sorry.
  • I agree with dick. The fact that the eye of lucifer remains while the base is crumbled only reflects our current situation and expresses defeat. I really wouldn't know where to begin with a logo without pulling out a cliche. I just like the meme of "Occupy" Every time I hear that word now it kind of makes me giddy, maybe incorporate that?

    Good feedback!
I made this to get people who are not currently involved interested in the problems we face, and quite honestly, our problems are rather depressing. I saw no way to sugar coat this truth without demeaning the movement, so instead I took an image that is commonplace and remade it to reflect reality. This seal is part of a larger design concept I am working on to remake a whole dollar bill, removing the existing content and replacing it facts about the growing income gap and the corruption from Wall Street and corporations on government. This "one percent bill" would be an easy flier to hand out and it would also confront people with the issues through a familiar medium. This is not an expression of defeat, but rather a call for awakening. The base is indeed crumbling because the top 1% has sought to take care of only itself. This reality is unsustainable, yet many people remain unaware.

I would agree that for those who are already part of the movement, this is not an image to rally behind. I would be happy to incorporate "Occupy" into a mark, but am not sure which direction to go without rehashing the iconography of past movements. Any suggestions?

I like the idea of a simple graphic of the word OCCUPY.

    Agreed.
It is the fact of occupation that makes this movement unique. I'll work on it and post some ideas here for review.

Here I use the word "Solidarity" for a general logo. This could be replaced with any city name or slogan of choice.

Besides free-hand, I can't create the image, but in my mind I see a logo of a circle of paper-dolls forged in brushed metal (unbreakable) arms raised in triumph with the center containing a symbol (flag/street sign/or any appropriate symbol) of the various occupations across the country and around the world. i.e. an American flag, a NYS flag, Wall Street sign, Hollywood sign, dollar sign, picture of a TV or newspaper, Fox logo, etc. Simply with the word "OCCUPY" below it. It can be modified to contain anything and everything and opens the doors for all sorts of creative/humorous/righteous/thought-provoking signs.

I would go further than a unified logo - an electronic banner with the logo. This is something I wrote a while ago, not very polished, but someone can take it further.

    Rethinking social movements
In this article we are focusing on one particular issue, the (self) management and stabilization of a massive social movement. Even more importantly, we describe a powerful tool for self-awareness and self management based on the new technology.

my suggestion for a Logo includes the Flag and Banner of Paradigm Shift, which We at BeingQuestOccupy raise at Our Encampment in Dassel, MN...first drafted in 2001at copywritten...but, We are content to limit this use to Our Encampment and related satelites.
