Come on, I know there's more than just one musician wanting to contribute to the movement. Put your music here that you're willing to let the movement use for non-profit purposes!

Put your songs here with creative commons permission for non-profit use.

Just about anything by Rage Against the Machine would be appropriate, like Bulls on Parade, Know Your Enemy, Testify, The Ghost of Tom Joad, Freedom, etc.

    All about RATM!

    Some old school music:

(Lennon would be proud of OWS IMHO)

Love the Beatles too. How about this one?

    Agrees: whitefeather

  • Brutal_Truth October 2011 +1 -1
Well, admittedly that's not the Beatles per se but John Lennon and the Plastic Ono Band but I tend to consider Lennon's solo work to be much more like late-stage Beatles than any of the others' solo careers like Paul McCartney's Wings or Ringo's or George's solo stuff.

Here's an inspiring and appropriate song by Silverchair I remember hearing all the time on the radio back in the 1990s.

Here's some more good tunes for the occupation, some of my favorites.

    Occupy Together

Should the towering walls on Wall Street finally crumble to the ground

As the nation’s cities echo as our united voices sound

Should the bastard bastions of corporate greed collapse as they take our flack

May we Occupy together and we’ll take our country back

Have inflated medication costs put you sleeping on the street?

Have the student loans turned off your phone and the ends refuse to meet?

Have too many friends gone to fight and die for the oil companies’ greed?

Then we’ll Occupy together, friends, in solidarity

Well I know some folks in Eugene, Ore, who’ve built a community

And they work and struggle every day for justice and harmony

And no they will not go away they will just expand their pack

And we’ll Occupy together and we’ll take our country back

How much longer will the people wait for democracy at home?

As the toxic gasses fill our air like toxic money trumps our votes

Well don’t let the propaganda machine set us at each other’s throats

Let us Occupy together and reclaim our nation’s hopes

Anyone ever hear Pete Seeger's version of "Banks of Marble" ? It is so perfect.

    http://youtu.be/x-o3CJytIPE

    I've traveled round this country
    From shore to shining shore
    It really made me wonder
The things I heard and saw

    I saw the weary farmer
    Plowing sod and loam
    l heard the auction hammer
    A knocking down his home

But the banks are made of marble
With a guard at every door
And the vaults are stuffed with silver
    That the farmer sweated for

    l saw the seaman standing
    Idly by the shore
    l heard the bosses saying
Got no work for you no more

But the banks are made of marble
With a guard at every door
And the vaults are stuffed with silver
    That the seaman sweated for

    I saw the weary miner
Scrubbing coal dust from his back
    I heard his children cryin
Got no coal to heat the shack

But the banks are made of marble
With a guard at every door
And the vaults are stuffed with silver
    That the miner sweated for

    I've seen my brothers working
    Throughout this mighty land
    l prayed we'd get together
    And together make a stand

    Final Chorus

Then we'd own those banks of marble
With a guard at every door
And we'd share those vaults of silver
    That we have sweated for

I like what I see so far, especially the Beatles Revolution. There are many songs from the 60' s that are ringing true with this movement for social justice and a better world. I wrote a song a couple of years ago, that I envision as a rap song. For what it is worth.

We can’t deny the reason why
    We’re here on earth
    To rise above
    To feel the Love
    To know infinity
    Through unity
    With all humanity

    The time has come
    For all to see
    That I am you
    And you are me
    There is no separateness
    Only connectedness

    Community, divinity, spirituality, unity…

I want it all and I want it now
To reach correction, by connection through intention
    But it’s not for me
    It’s for humanity
    To rise above
    To feel the love
    To sense spirituality
    Systematically to infinity
    A new reality with possibility
In a world with much disparity
New hope for functionality in totality of reality
    But it’s not for me
    It’s for humanity
To rise above, to feel the love

    Community, divinity, spirituality, unity

I was surprised how many of you people never heard of Pete Seeger. My generation wrote all the battle anthems you will ever need. Dylan, Who, Beatles, Mothers of Invention, Creedence, and you can Google protest song of the 1960's
The idea is not to find the angriest hard rock song, but the one that tells your story. The added value is how many of us old people already know the words. When I hear these songs, I can tell you where I was and what I was feeling. My generations protests did not have twitter, live-stream, blogs, and email, we had to use our minds to repeat the news to every one we knew. It was a little primitive but we NEED didn't batteries, which is your new Master....man!

I'm surprised no one has mentioned U2. I dont know what Bono is doing these days, but OWS is the sort of thing he supports.

We can use bands who need exposure to write protest songs. Your song has a great message and great lyrics.

Ry Cooder's NEW song, "No Banker Left Behind"
Ry Cooder, who has been writing, singing and producing subversive and other songs since the 1970s, has a most excellent new song called No Banker Left Behind.
It has easy tune and lyrics, and a chorus that it's easy to join in on.
It's also easy to learn on guitar, etc. It's the opening track of his new album, "Pull Up Some Dust and Sit Down."
    Check the song out at

BTW, there's also a most excellent folk song from 1950 called "The Banks are Made of Marble," or "Banks of Marble."

Here it is on YouTube sung by Pete Seeger.

My son Chris and I perform as the Ridgewood Boys here in south central Kentucky. This song began as new verses for "Which Side Are You On", but then I thought of a more pointed question and rewrote the chorus as well. The melody is traditional.

Where'd the Money Go by The Ridgewood Boys

Come listen, you good people, this truth needs to be told
It’s time to tell the one percent we can’t be bought or sold

Where’d the money go, where’d the money go
Won’t leave till we know, where'd the money go

They’ll never hear our voices until we raise a fuss
There’s only one percent of them and ninety-nine of us

My folks worked for the one percent from dawn to setting sun
They worked and saved the best they could but now their money’s gone

They told me if I’d take a loan my future would be bright
And now to pay the one percent I work both day and night

The bailouts lined the pockets of the one percent
It’s time they told the rest of us just where that money went

Don’t listen to the ones they pay to fill the air with lies
They’re scared that we’ll think for ourselves, scared that we’ll organize

Here's a new recording of the fist-shaking protest / garage rock anthem from the 60s "SHAPE OF THINGS TO COME": http://tinyurl.com/7p93vvm

The lyrics are just too relevant:

"There's a new sun rising up angry in the sky.
There's a new voice crying but not afraid to die.
Let the old world make believe it's blind and deaf and dumb
BUT NOTHING CAN CHANGE THE SHAPE OF THINGS TO COME.

There are changes lying ahead on every road.
There are new thoughts ready and waiting to explode.
When tomorrow is today, the bells will toll for some.
BUT NOTHING CAN CHANGE THE SHAPE OF THINGS TO COME.

The future's coming on sweet and strong,
And no-one's gonna hold it back for long...

There are new dreams crowding out old realities.
There's revolution sweeping in like a fresh new breeze.
Let the old world make believe it's blind and deaf and dumb,
BUT NOTHING CAN CHANGE THE SHAPE OF THINGS TO COME. "

Another song from the Ridgewood Boys.

Pepper Spray by The Ridgewood Boys

Put down that can of pepper spray
Holster your taser, put the paint ball gun away
Don’t sell them your soul, no matter what they pay
Put down that can of pepper spray

They’ll pay you a thousand bucks a week
To gas any kid who tries to speak
Dress you like a stormtrooper, tell you this is war
Won’t tell you what you’re fighting for

They’ll pay you to sacrifice your soul
To show the world they’re in control
Make you spray it down the throat, in the eyes, in the face
Pay you to live with the disgrace

There’s still time to change your mind
    Leave the one percent behind
Tear up that paycheck, just turn and walk away
Put down that can of pepper spray

I wrote this song months ago, through my frustration and outrage over the Marcellus Shale drilling in my home-state and the corporate control that made my elected politicians irrelevant. When I participated and was arrested on the last day of the Tar Sands Action, I was inspired to create a youtube video with it. And now, almost 4 months later, I feel my song and video has only become more relevant. Please enjoy and feel free to share!
