Check out Tim Thomas, the goaltender for the Stanley Cup, Boston Bruins... the only member that refused to go to the White Hosue to meet President Obama. His statement was against the 'US Government's corruptness' not against Obama, Dems, Republicans, or anyone else in particular.
    Wow!
Can you imagine the pressure on Tim Thomas to do this, and make the statement he did? Pressure and backlash from the media, family, coaches, owners, fans, team mates, etc.??
This is off Yahoo which was posted on NHL.com....

"Goaltender Thomas insisted his decision to snub the ceremony with US President Barack Obama, a Democrat, was not a partisan gesture in favor of the opposing Republican party, but a decision based on his belief that the federal government has too much influence on American individuals' lives.

"I believe the federal government has grown out of control, threatening the rights, liberties, and property of the people," Thomas said in a statement posted on NHL.com.

He added that in his opinion, not just the president but he legislature and courts are at fault.

"Because I believe this, today I exercised my right as a free citizen, and did not visit the White House," Thomas said.

"This was not about politics or party, as in my opinion both parties are responsible for the situation we are in as a country. This was about a choice I had to make as an INDIVIDUAL."

Bruins general manager said the team wouldn't take any punitive action against Thomas.

Tomorrow I will order my Tim Thomas Hockey jersey.... and I am a die hard Pittsburgh penguins fan.

Stand up for what you believe in...

I'd be surprised if they don't punish him somehow. They may do it under another pretext, e.g., income tax, sex scandal, some other personal pretext. They just can't help being bullies and as narcissist psycho power-drunks won't tolerate a rebel / dissenter, and certainly don't like to see other examples being encouraged.

Whereas I sympathize with his gesture on a personal level, such political gestures won't go far unless people are ready to govern themselves, i.e., in a new system with alternative economics and politics. The later is necessarily a quite act of not negative reaction, but critically thoughtful and constructive action, the stuff of a true revolution. "The revolution will not be televised".
