CORPORATE EARTHQUAKES!!!!!
  • jpcoble November 2011 +1 -1
Can a Corporation cause an Earthquake? The Answer is Yes! If you do not believe me, see the evidence below (hint: they already have):

Hydraulic Fracking (so Oil/Gas companies can make greater profits) is the use of liquids being pumped into oil/gas shale to break the shale and release the oil/gas within. It doesn't take a Geology degree to have the common sense to know that if you crush the rock a few miles below us; the rock above that rock will be displaced by gravity when the rock below it collapses. When these "collapses" work toward the surface, the surface can shake! NOW, see the strong correlation below (and later, what the scientists are saying):

See the Oil/Gas shale map at this link: http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.energyindustryphotos.com/shale%2520gas%2520map.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.energyindustryphotos.com/shale_gas_map_shale_basins.htm&h=600&w=776&sz=150&tbnid=FippqWAZENoOQM:&tbnh=90&tbnw=116&zoom=1&docid=3_EoeoNjgor3YM&sa=X&ei=kqq2TrqsHITg2QXQpIHNDQ&ved=0CFsQ9QEwAg&dur=1172

Now, consider the freak Virgina Earthquake in August in a town called Mineral, VA (obviously, from the name of the town, there has been some kind of mining in the past). It is located just East of a known Fracking Zone. Further, consider the freak Colorado Earthquake (on the same day in August) in Trinidad, CO - also in a known Fracking Zone. Now, consider the freak Earthquake in Sparks, Oklahoma - also in a known fracking zone! Put these cities names into Google and see them on the maps and compare to the Shale Map link shown above. There is a strong connection here. ALL OF THESE EARTHQUAKES WERE THE STRONGEST IN MORE THAN 100 YEARS FOR THESE AREAS - THESE ARE NOT NORMALLY EARTHQUAKE PRONE AREAS!

OK, so there is the appearance of a connection. Is there any scientific evidence more than locational connections? Yes! See http://www.newscientist.com/article/dn21120-how-fracking-caused-earthquakes-in-the-uk.html for information regarding earthquakes in the UK. This is one of the most respected Science magazines in the World.

Would these Oil/Gas companies be so short sighted as to put Profits above the ground beneath our feet? Of course they would! We do not have a sufficient scientific understanding to know when and where earthquakes will occur (with great accuracy). In other words, we are messing with something that we do not understand (the ground beneath our feet) and we are messing with something we desperately need to be stable (the ground beneath our feet). However, the Oil/Gas companies do not care - they only want their profits. It isn't the first time - consider Ethanol wherre we use our food supplies (such as corn) to power our cars and then as a result, drive up food prices.... I talk until I am blue in the face and it appears that sadly, not enough people are listening to realize that we MUST STOP THESE COMPANIES AND FORCE THEM TO BEHAVE IN A RESPONSIBLE WAY. Hell, if they could make a profit by starting a nuclear war; these Oil/Gas companies would probably do it.....

@jpcoble. 'I talk until I am blue in the face and it appears that sadly, not enough people are listening to realize that we MUST STOP THESE COMPANIES AND FORCE THEM TO BEHAVE IN A RESPONSIBLE WAY.' I agree with your statement. Until we can come up with a way to communicate with people, to get their attention on what is happening and what it is doing to us as a whole, we are fighting a losing battle. I have been around many people who don't even think about anything past their day to day existence. It is very sad. They don't comprehend what it is someone is trying to educate them on. I think fear also plays a very important role and how they work hard at keeping certain things out of their lives(not sure if I worded that right for my meaning) as a form of protecting themselves. IMO

I think fracking and the effects of is a very big, very spun by money subject to make believe it does not even have any effects and is totally safe. I think it is a subject that at the least needs to be honestly addressed by common sense reasoning which it is not, by way to many, due to corporate owned media and the PR campaign or restriction of coverage about it. With the drinking water being no longer guaranteed to all, and fighting over it already. Anything that effects people water should have much more attention. It's kinda like air, you don't think about till you don't have it, by then it's probably too late.
