I found this to be among the best reasoned collection of ideas I've seen. Although I don't agree with everything there, I don't agree with EVERYTHING I've seen anywhere. I'm on board.
There are other ideas at www.lasvegastimes.info

Thanks, I tried. If theres anything you want to add or remove then I'd love some input. As you can see the 30 signatures it has isn't really cutting it. But Im viewing it more of as an experiment, if it can get attention from more connected members then maybe it could lead to an actual list of demands based on a group consensus. If you choose to sign it then please share it on your facebook.

The An In-Dissent Proposal talks of corporations over $18,333,333 being presently taxed at a Rate of 35% . Where does the corporation get the money to pay this tax?
  • theboyd November 2011 +1 -1
I would enjoy seeing the addition to this petition of a proposal to eliminate the Capitol Gains Tax, and tax all income as Regular Income. The recipients of Capitol Gains aren't creating anything but personal wealth. Those folks should be paying the same percentages as folks that work for a living must pay.
  • gott5gott5 November 2011 +1 -1
Tax income flat reguardless of income and additionally tax only PERSONAL tax appreciation. same percentage.

Revising the tax rates is simple enough, an act of Congress would do it (even though I think the Repbulicans would die on the barricades before they would allow the capital gains tax to rise), but you should know that the following items in the petition would require a constitutional amendment to change:

    2. Since corporations inherently operate as an individual seeking financial gain on behalf of its citizen shareholders, but not directly through the decisions of the citizen shareholders, they should not be permitted to lobby bills that directly influence matters of interest to American citizens i.e. bills regarding war, the environment, budgets allotments, medical matters or criminal laws.

    5. Since corporations cannot represent the opinions or desires of any individual person, they should be restricted from donating money to any Political Action Committee (SuperPac)

    9. Lastly this petition proposes the one time appointment of a qualified 10 man committee to be commissioned; and to be work under the jurisdiction and supervision of the Senate Subcommittee on Taxation and IRS Oversight. This committee would be commissioned to review all of 26 U.S.C. (Internal revenue code or “US tax code”) and hold a power to veto any amendments which they see as unnecessary or unfair “loopholes” which give an unjustified advantage to all entities to which the amendment applies. Also any amendment which no longer holds any purpose or effect. This committees members would currently hold no elected office and be appointed from several sources as follows, 2 by the Senate, 2 By the House of Representatives, 2 by the President, 3 by national election, and 1 by the Supreme Court. Within this committee any veto passed would require a 5 member consensus. The amendment in question would then be passed through congress for revision and reinstatement, or termination.

The first two (2 and 5) violate the right to free speech that has been granted to incorprated persons by the Supreme Court's interpretation of the 1st amendment. The second one (9) violates section 8 of article one of the Constitution (only Congress itself has the right to set taxes, it cant delegate that to anyone).

So unfortunately those components of your petition cant be met without a constitutional amendment, probably several. Have you checked out the forum over at "The Multitude" http://www.themultitude.org/forum/ They have a lot of conversation over there about agitating for a consititutional convention. They would like to hear from you.

@DeMarquis thanks. Your absolutely right about the need for constitutional amendments for items 2 and 5. I intended for the committee designated in item 9 to operate under the jurisdiction of congress. But for it to be handled the way I typed it would also require some serious legislation. Also I will definitely check out the multitude forums. Its the first occupy website where I found the word reform before the word revolution.

HELLO....new person to the site here...While I understand the magnitude of the issues raised by the occupy movement, I can honestly say in earnest that I don't think most of the population does. It is my belief that if they knew what the movement was pressing for in simple concise terms..the majority of this countries Americans would be on board....it seems to me that the occupy movement is all over the map and that being in a scattered position of protest hinders the highly significant message that could be delivered. I am not being critical--just real. Maybe the occupy leadership could hold an online election to discern 3 or 4 specific platforms from which the movement could mobilize and bombard the media with a position on these 3 or 4 selected issues of protest.

As a side note--the AARP organization has really taken a wise stance with their medicare benefits on the line by recently running ads putting politicians on notice of their strength in voting numbers--and by directing their solidarity right at the politicians running for office. Their ads say--we are 5 million strong voting Americans and we will be watching you (politicians) over the next few months and you will hear from us on election day...hence if you want to keep your job--you best be considering our desires because we are the people you represent--and we are watching.

Occupy should take this same bold in your face voting agenda. We need short concise issues that the movement feels strongly about in solidarity to target as our platform issues for resolution.

    Example platforms:
    1) Occupy demands an immediate criminal investigation and congressional inquiry into the reasons justifying the recent us tax dollar bail outs of financial institutions
    2) Occupy demands new legislation that prohibits the --currently legal--practice of insider trading by elected officials in Congress
    3) Occupy demands immediate government pressure, transparency and accountability of all banks and financial institutions that received us tax payer bail out money to disclose how the tax payer money was used to renegotiate upside down loans for Americans facing foreclosure--with renegotiation intent on Americans keeping their homes
    4) 3% of the foreign aid budget redirected immediately to fund US infrastructure projects that create jobs for Americans.

    These are just examples!

Next, it would be wise to bombard the media with whatever selected platforms derive so that public opinion and politicians can take sides and thus be held accountable, inspired or empowered. Lastly, the movement can be--and is--identified by the 99% population characteristic--however, we are also a remarkable voting power by our sheer numbers that if reasonably flashed in the face of politicians have the capacity to bring criminals to justice via congressional inquiry into the wall street deception and good ole boy antics. The occupy movement has this capacity! It is ripe for demanding change if simple organizational functions and leadership can focus and target. Just a thought and commentary?
