  • xanjoi October 2011 +1 -1
We are calling for a STRIKE Nov 2nd in Washington D.C. in solidarity with Occupy Oakland! And we are going to OCCUPY Lafayette Park in front of the White House!!!

ALL the Occupations should call for a STRIKE in solidarity with Oakland. If we can't STRIKE now, when can we?

Here's the flyer for D.C. - the formatting didn't come out right but you get the idea:

    Strike Strike Strike
    Nov 2nd Wednesday
    Stand in solidarity with
    Occupy Oakland
Don’t go to work! Don’t Go to School! Don’t Stay Home!
    OCCUPY Lafayette Park!
10:00am Rally in front of the White House
12:00 noon: March from Occupation to Occupation
    2:00pm: Action TBA
8:00-10:00pm Dinner served in front of the White House
    • Stand against Police Brutality
    • Corporations are NOT people!
    • End the Military & Prison Industrial Complexes

    The other side:

    ENOUGH WAR!
    WE DEMAND PEACE
    10 years too long!
We’re sick and tired of being sick and tired:
    • Of wars: at home AND abroad
    • Of occupations
    • Of torture
    • Of killings
    • Of UAV DRONE & Robotic weapons
    • Of Pentagon spending $1 BILLION a DAY
We’re fed up! We won’t take it anymore:
    • NO cuts
    • NO more bank bailouts
    • NO more tuition increases
    • NO more non-existent/substandard healthcare
    • NO more corporate rule!
    • NO more tax breaks for the rich
BRING OUR TROOPS, CONTRACTORS, CORPORATIONS HOME
    BRING OUR WAR DOLLARS HOME
We represent the 99% and we are against all wars!
We are occupying Freedom Plaza until our troops come home!

Join us! Join any of the 1618 occupations thus far around the country!
    BASTA!

Absolutely - we should stand shoulder to shoulder with these folks. See the following for my thoughts on this:

Yes but remember, this is all in the name of peace, I can not stress this. This war is another thing to take away our rights, our tax money goes to war. I'm anti-war at this moment, we need to draw numbers.

    Brown—letter re- Occupy Oakland—11.01.2011
Sent to Governor Brown's office by email @
    http://govnews.ca.gov/gov39mail/mail.php

No response as yet. Perhaps, many could write him. Although it's best to write a personal email, it's okay if anyone wants to use any of the text below:
    ======================

    Governor Brown:

I'm concerned and disappointed that you have not yet made a highly visible public denouncement of the Oakland police' use of unnecessary and violent force against the Occupy Oakland protesters.

It's a mystery to me why Authoritarians seem to believe that ideas and expression thereof can be stopped with tear gas and bullets. If anything, especially in this era of electronic media and instant distribution, such violent and draconian police response to peaceful demonstrators will only foment more problems. We have certainly observed that consequence in the Watts riots, People's Park, Kent State, Wounded Knee (1973), and the L.A. Riots, to name a few well known examples. And if I recall correctly, you gave Dennis Banks amnesty in California. Where is that Governor Brown now?

    Do you think this action
    http://occupywallst.org/article/occupy-oakland-calls-city-wide-general-strike-nov-/
would have occurred if the Oakland Police had instead negotiated with the protesters?

Imo, the Occupy Wall Street demonstrations are peaceful (so far) and an appropriate response to our dysfunctional U.S. Congress and politicians' loyalty to Wall Street's unethical profiteering.

Imo, as Governor, you need to strongly and publicly support nonviolence, and that includes both police and protesters.

Also Chase bank was just shut down by protesters. Wells Fargo has also been shut down today. Apparently, at Citibank ATMs all over the city there are notes taped up telling people to close their accounts.
~For some background, 1946 was the last time in the USA that there was a general strike, which was in Oakland. This is the largest action in the bay area since the Vietnam war.

Oh ya, that is awesome. thanks for posting the MVD news brief. :-) Not lovin MC hammer so much though. That is not what we should be about. I didn't mean to agree with myself, but since I did I better say POWER TO THE PEOPLE !!!!!!! Oakland is out there showing how it is done!!!!! We need to emphasize any violence is not appreciated, or should it be tolerated. One person should not try and take away all the good amazing peaceful triumphs of what is going on out there. Go Oakland !

anyone else hear that one of the people who got run over by the "impatient Mercedes driver" is DEAD??? I just saw that on Facebook!!! The driver wasn't even stopped by police. Am I living in some alternative universe right now?
  • gavemehope November 2011 +1 -1 (+1 / -0 )
WTF that is horrible, this is not the last we will hear of this, the person will be caught. I will look for a story, but if you get one please post. Are you sure person is dead ?
  • janmarboljanmarbol November 2011 +1 -1
No I'm not sure if the person is dead... that was what was buzzing all over the internet and on social media last night but then Occupy Marines said she/he wasn't dead, so I don't know and I haven't heard anything else on it
  • janmarboljanmarbol November 2011 +1 -1
when I posted that, it was when everyone said the person was dead... if that's a lie, I don't know what people get out of that!
  • gavemehope November 2011 +1 -1 (+1 / -0 )
That's why we must refrain from overreacting, but when you see the video it is easy to see how someone thought that. I can't say for sure, but I also saw two people were involved and alive. The man should still be arrested for assault with a deadly weapon or something, not just free to go.
  • janmarboljanmarbol November 2011 +1 -1
Does anyone know what the status of these people is? I cannot find anything on them after that night of mayhem where they were saying one died! Now there is another vet beaten in intensive care!! what is going on and why do they have it out for our vets?
  • janmarboljanmarbol November 2011 +1 -1
Mundus! thanks for that post! Wonderful photos! I had some personal problems and could not get online today till very late! thanks for the pics
  • gavemehope November 2011 +1 -1

  • MundusVultDecipiMundusVultDecipi November 2011 +1 -1
