OWS Environmental Solidarity Working Group calls for OCCUPY NUKES, a national day of action against the U.S. nuclear weapons arsenal. On August 6th, Hiroshima Day, take action against a part of the war machine–nuclear warheads, which number 10,000–that takes up $7.6 billion of the Obama FY 2012 budget.

The 99% have tools to transform this waste and danger into structures that meet our real needs: true sustainability, (true security,) just food production, jobs, renewable energy, affordable housing, education, and economic justice. We awaken in order to do so on August 6.

Occupy Nukes will take place in New York City, San Francisco, Santa Fe, and Los Alamos, NM, as well as in solidarity with what activists do all over the world at this time to remember the U.S. government’s use of nuclear warfare, to oppose its continued use of nuclear warfare (as with depleted-uranium weaponry), and to radically turn from nuclear technology and dirty power.
To participate in New York City, our direct action will meet across from the (eastern face of the) GE Building (30 Rockefeller Plaza), at the steps that descend into the sunken cafe area. Be there at 5:30pm, August 6. Wear black.

The Tar Sands Blockade is a peaceful direct action designed to pressure the state of Texas to reject the Keystone XL pipeline and to inspire communities along the pipeline’s path to organize their own direct actions to block the pipeline. The Gulf Coast portion of the pipeline is phase 3 of the much larger cross-border pipeline from Canada. Stopping this one project will be a major blow to dirty energy and will help steer the south toward a clean energy future.
We are focused on building a broad coalition in Texas and Oklahoma, in communities across the south impacted by tar sands production. By working with diverse groups, our goal is to bring 1,000 people to Texas to participate in this action. Many action participants will be engaging in civil disobedience for the first time, and we are committed to providing resources to make this the accessible, empowering, and effective action we all need. RALLY & RIDE: Come by foot, car, or bicycle. After a 45 minute Rally, school buses will be leaving the Common for the Vermont Yankee gates. A small donation will be requested before boarding the bus. Alternatively, we encourage people to join a bicycle procession from the Common to Vermont Yankee in Vernon. This is a relatively flat 8 mile ride. All riders should be able to keep pace with a large group of Adult riders.

Click here for a map of Brattleboro public parking. No fees on Sundays. At the conclusion of the action (around 3pm), the buses will return to the Transportation Center parking garage on Flat Street.

ACTION: Once assembled near Vermont Yankee there will be a procession to the reactor gates involving much theater and costuming. Then some of us will engage in non-violent civil disobedience (CD) action. People engaging in the CD will need to have had nonviolence training, and be in affinity groups. Supporters are most welcome!

PLYMOUTH - The organization Cape Downwinders, whose mission is to “take action to protect the lives and welfare of the residents of Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket against the threat of death or injury resulting from the use of nuclear energy…” is staging a march to the Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station. Where: Staging area 1 Elliot Lane, Plymouth, with a 1 mile march to the gate of the Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station When: Sunday, May 20, 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. According to a press release announcing the march, Cape Downwinders holds that the Nuclear Regulation Commission is considering Entergy’s application for re-licensing the Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station for an additional 20 years, without implementing critical lessons learned in Fukushima, Japan. Cape Downwinders says that groups of concerned citizens will gather in Plymouth to demand that the Pilgrim nuclear power plant’s 40 year license must expire (it’s due to expire in June). The General Electric Mark 1 Boiling Water Reactor is the same design that failed at four reactors in Japan. Loss of offsite electricity was the cause and, according to NRC officials, a similar accident could happen here. The nuclear waste spent fuel pool was designed to hold 880 highly radioactive rods and currently holds 3,270.

"The UN General Assembly, on 22 December 2005, by resolution 60/209 identified solidarity as one of the fundamental and universal values that should underlie relations between peoples in the Twenty-first century, and in that regard decided to proclaim 20 December of each year International Human Solidarity Day.

At the World Summit for Social Development, Governments committed themselves to the eradication of poverty as an ethical, social, political and economic imperative of humankind.

By resolution 57/265 the General Assembly, on 20 December 2002, established the World Solidarity Fund, which was set up in February 2003 as a trust fund of the United Nations Development Programme. Its objective is to eradicate poverty and promote human and social development in developing countries, in particular among the poorest segments of their populations.

Through initiatives such as the establishment of the World Solidarity Fund to eradicate poverty and the proclamation of International Human Solidarity Day, the concept of solidarity was promoted as crucial in the fight against poverty and in the involvement of all relevant stakeholders.

International Human Solidarity Day serves to remind us about the importance of solidarity for the achievement of the international agreements on social development, including programmes of action of international conferences and multilateral accords."

National General Assembly 7-1 to 7-5 REPORT BACK

On 12-2-11 three of our board members met with Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter’s Chief of Staff and four top Deputy Mayors yesterday. We also met with venue owners and attended the Occupy Philly CoCo meeting.

Right now we have three attorneys and one expert on not for profits on our board and will be electing three to five more board members. The not for profit organization responsible for facilitating the delegate election and NATIONAL GENERAL ASSEMBLY is called ”The 99% Working Group, Ltd.” and it is filed in New York State.

We really need to put any past misunderstandings (and that is all they were on both sides) behind us and UNIFY and connect as soon as possible. Only the government and 1% seek disunity in our movement.

We have over 5000 members in our working group who meet and discuss issues related to the National General Assembly concept every day online and by conference call/Skype.

It is clear after our trip to Philadelphia that The National General Assembly will happen with the backing of the Mayor so we want all the GA’s across the United States to run candidates in the delegate election in March. The city will even provide security to the 876 delegates when they March from the NGA venue to Independence Hall on 7-4-12 to sign the Petition for Redress of Grievances that THEY will write and ratify. We have applied for the appropriate permit with the National Parks Service.

Please have your demands working group send us whatever petitions or demands they have written so we may give these ideas to the delegates as suggestions. Our 22 points in the 99% declaration are also just suggestions to the delegates.

We really hope #OWS will work with us hand-in-hand and is planning huge occupations of the two party conventions. The plan was always to work jointly with #OWS and that #OWS would continue to demonstrate and occupy while the 876 elected delegates worked on the formal demands from March to July. The fact that the government has illegally evicted #OWS in a coordinated effort to suppress free speech and assembly means that the conveying of the NGA is more important than ever. We are keenly aware that the NGA concept never would have arisen but for #OWS and the 99% movement.

Please use our facilitation group to elect delegates nationally and use the venue we provide for the delegates in July. We take NO POSITION on the content of the petition and our board members are barred from running as delegates themselves.

SUPPORTERS WISHING TO ATTEND THE PRE-TRIAL PROCEEDINGS
If you wish to attend the pre-trial hearing, you will need to go to the Visitor Control Center after passing through the Main Gate (all the other gates are for military ID holders only). We suggest arriving between 7:30am and 8:15am.

Each person will need a valid state or federal photo ID such as a driver's license or state photo ID card. Anyone driving on to Fort Meade will be required to submit their driver's license, vehicle registration, and printed (not digital) proof of insurance. Your vehicle will be subject to search. Consider walking on base if there are any questions at all regarding your vehicle and paperwork.

The proceedings will be held at the Magistrate Court, 4432 Llewellyn Ave, Fort Meade, MD 20755 (this is one mile from the Visitor Center). Most or all visitors are expected to be seated in a remote viewing area near the courtroom equipped with closed circuit TV. Electronic devices, including computers, photos, and camera, are expected to be barred from both the courtroom and the remote viewing area.

GETTING THERE
The Fort Meade Main Gate is less than 10 miles south of the Baltimore-Washington DC International (BWI) airport. It is located between Washington DC and Baltimore MD.

Driving: From Washington, DC, take MD-295 N towards BALTIMORE to US 175 EAST, then follow 175 EAST until you come to Reece Road. From Baltimore, MD, take MD-295 S towards WASHINGTON to US 175 EAST, then take 175 EAST until you come to Reece Road.

Train/Bus: We initially hoped to run a shuttle van from the nearby Odenton MARC train station; however, this commuter train does not run on the weekend. Amtrak does not stop at this station. We are investigating other options, including chartered bus service from Union Station, Washington DC for the Saturday, Dec. 17th rally.

WHERE TO STAY
There are many hotels serving this area just south of the BWI Airport. The closest of these are 5-6 miles from the Ft. Meade Main Gate. One option is Aloft Arundel Mills, 7520 Teague Rd, Hanover, MD, 21076 (866-539-0036), $80-$100 night. A hotels.com search of the area turns up rooms nearby starting at $60 a night. The only lodging really close to the Ft. Meade Main Gate is the White Gables Motel,
8781 Veterans Hwy, Millersville, MD 21108 (410-923-2222), $70-$90 night.

Wall Streak: Occupy the Wall Documentary - PARTICIPANTS NEEDED

Like art? Like activism? Like standing on a roof wearing nothing but pride? Check out this teaser for the Wall Streak in New York City and go be a part of the story on November 5th.

Artist Christopher Walsh is painting a mural on the roof of his building in support of the Occupy Wall Street protest this Saturday, November 5th. For this political mural, he is gathering models from Zuccotti Park to participate in bringing the work of art to life. His goal is to give protesters a platform to express their feelings, frustrations, and ideas through art.

Be a part of this documentary film about artist Chris Walsh's newest installation.

Needed:
- Twelve volunteers willing to be painted and pressed onto white corrugated steel wall as part of artist Walsh's mural reflecting on the political climate on Wall Street today. Some volunteers will be nude. Clothing optional.

- Supporters to come show your support participate in this powerful political statement.

Coffee, hot chocolate, melon, bread, cheese, and good music will abound.

An Invitation to a Roundtable Political Discussion on the #Occupy Movement:

The recent #Occupy protests are driven by discontent with the present state of affairs: glaring economic inequality, dead-end Democratic Party politics, and, for some, the suspicion that capitalism could never produce an equitable society. These concerns are coupled with aspirations for social transformation at an international level. For many, the protests at Wall St. and elsewhere provide an avenue to raise questions the Left has long fallen silent on:

1. What would it mean to challenge capitalism on a global scale?
2. How could we begin to overcome social conditions that adversely affect every part of life?
3. And, how could a new international radical movement address these concerns in practice?

Although participants at Occupy Wall St. have managed thus far to organize resources for their own daily needs, legal services, health services, sleeping arrangements, food supplies, defense against police brutality, and a consistent media presence, these pragmatic concerns have taken precedent over long-term goals of the movement. Where can participants of this protest engage in formulating, debating, and questioning the ends of this movement? How can it affect the greater society beyond the occupied spaces?

We in the Platypus Affiliated Society ask participants, organizers, and interested observers of the #Occupy movement to consider the possibility that political disagreement could lead to clarification, further development and direction. Only when we are able to create an active culture of thinking and debating on the Left without it proving prematurely divisive can we begin to imagine a Leftist politics adequate to the historical possibilities of our moment. We may not know what these possibilities for transformation are. This is why we think it is imperative to create avenues of engagement that will support these efforts.

Towards this goal, Platypus will be hosting a series of roundtable discussions with organizers and participants of the #Occupy movement. These will start at campuses in New York and Chicago but will be moving to other North American cities, and to London, Germany, and Greece in the months to come. We welcome any and all who would like to be a part of this project of self-education and potential rebuilding of the Left to join us in advancing this critical moment.

V for Vendetta is an amazing work of art, and we can take inspiration from it.

I am hearing rumors about November 5th being declared as Get Rid of Facebook Day and Bank Transfer Day. Facebook has been allegedly "selling information to government agencies and giving clandestine access to information security firms so that they can spy on people from all around the world. Some of these so-called whitehat infosec firms are working for authoritarian governments, such as those of Egypt and Syria."

Let us also make this a day for everyone and anyone in support of the cause to do what they can of the following:

1) If you are 18 or below, and are willing, do not go to school. This is only for those who are volunteering for this, there is no demand.
2) Do not buy products for that day-including electronics, credit cards, gas, food, etc. Only if you can. I understand those with families cannot do this.
3) If you are a Soldier, of any nation, refuse to participate in military affairs and demand to go home.
4) Refuse to pay bills. Especially Credit Card bills. In fact, throw them all away.
5) Do not go to work.
6) Take out your money from your bank accounts before your bank freezes your account.

Anymore ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

I've created the OccupyBrazil FB page, and I've been trying to send our information to add on this site thru here and thru twitter. People come to ask me why is not showing on this site. I can't really answer this, so I decided to ask and see if you guys didn't got the information needed or if you are having any kind of problem in which I can help. I've noticed that the map changed, but I had another map with the South America highlighted and on yours is not. Also we have OccupyArgentina, OccupyChile, OccupyPeru, OccupyPortoRico.

There are two upcoming events next week: Oct 12 and Oct 15, and having international support would help a lot to fight against the corruption in our country. Since is getting closer, I would like to ask: why is taking so long? People still very skeptical about the change, and you guys have no idea how much only by seeing the name here would help. Thanks in advance.

Show your solidarity!

It's time for a wide spread, old school "blue flu" style strike. On Nov 23, call in sick to work. The more people who do this, the more impact this will have. This is especially true if you work in service industries such as fast food resturants or box stores.

If you can get the day off without getting fired and losing your only source of supporting yourself, then join a one day strike against corporate control and the exploitation of the working class. If you have a job, call off for the day. If you run a small business, shut it down on 11/23/11. Don't go shopping, close out your bank account.

The economy is powered by the workers. We have the control. The ownership class has forgotten that for too long. Remind them.

Reports are coming in that the occupation of Wall Street, which turned a week old on Saturday, has become the subject of police repression today. Reports of taser use, mass arrests, and an attempt to permanently break up the demonstration against Wall Street's power. In response, we will be rallying in Burlington to support our brothers and sisters in Liberty Plaza and bring awareness of their protest to our fellow Vermonters

The rally will start in front of Waterman Building at UVM and will leave at 12pm sharp to march to City Hall Park, where Matt Cropp, who just returned from several days with the occupiers, will give a brief update, after which a General Assembly will be held to determine how attendees want to demonstrate their support.

Please make and bring signs that show your support for the occupation and your opposition to the use of police violence to repress it. Please spread widely!

THIS IS A PEACEFUL OCCUPATION. WE STRONGLY ENCOURAGE THAT LAWS ARE FOLLOWED. EACH INDIVIDUAL IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR BEHAVIOR AND THIS EVENT TAKES NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR ANY ARRESTS OR OTHER ACTION THAT MAY TAKE PLACE.

Here are some of the basic rules of the Capital:

Overnight camping is not allowed on the capital grounds.

Tents can be set up, but cannot be staked into the ground and must be taken down between the hours of 11pm and 6am.

If we are to occupy, and stay overnight then this would be an act of Civil Disobedience. Civil Disobedience is when you are peacefully breaking the rules, and can be subject to arrest. If people are serious about this, then you must open yourself up to possibly being arrested and going to jail.

Things that are suggested to bring:

Video Cameras/Still Cameras

Cell Phones

Food

Water

Tents/Tarps

Sleeping bags, pillows, blankets ect...

First Aid kit

Signs

Bull Horns-(PA system if someone has one)

Musical instruments

And bring your PASSION!!!

Arm yourself with a copy of the US Constitution, MI Constitution and any relevant Supreme Court Ruling (Snyder v Phelps). Educate yourself and know your rights.

These are just suggestions, and is not a complete list.

OCCUPY MICHIGAN: MISSION STATEMENT

I am here today to demand Democracy! Here in Michigan there has been overt action to subvert our Democracy and our system of Representative Government. The Emergency Financial Manager Law is a direct mechanism to disenfranchise the People and deprive the People of their right to be represented. This is a cancer on the body politic and we are in the slow process of cutting it out through Citizen Initiated Referendum. There are tireless Petition People and the People are signing! We are beating back the cancer.

There has been legislation passes that infringes on Michigan Teachers Rights to form a Union and even speak to each other on school grounds. Speech has been made illegal, illegal I say, in Michigan. This shall not stand! They even have a provision for jailing people for talking in the Teacher’s Lounge about the Union. We are attempting to Recall The Governor Rick Snyder, The Attorney General , and many Representatives. We will show them the door!

There has been Austerity and attempts to punish poor people and the unemployed simply for being poor and unemployed. They have wickedly and viciously cut the safety net. They have diverted Federal funds that are meant to be distributed by the State to Michigan’s most neediest. We shall vote them out!

Snyder & Cohorts have given Carte Blanche to Corporatist and to ALEC (The American Legislation and Exchange Council) and have actually gone so far as to pass prewritten legislation, almost verbatim, written by the minions of The Koch Brothers. They have attempted to completely under fund and subvert Environmental Regulation and replace it with fracking and oil wells… and water that is poisoned for a million years. Imagine pipelines all over State Lands and Private property just so a few Billionaires can even more money? No I say! We shall fight this with People Power, with Petition Power. Petitions that have the force of law! It IS what is right and we shall prevail!

Studies suggest that for every dollar spent on Green energy five jobs are created to one for fossil fuel. With increased efficiencies there are simply not enough jobs to go around. No jobs and no money are NOT the answer.

We live in a beautiful place full of richness and beauty. A place full of good and wonderful people. This is the Heartland! This is Michigan! We have the most productive workers in the world. We have silos filled with grain and store shelves stuffed with merchandise. We have unlimited resources, it’s the distribution that is the problem.

All the money Koch money in the world cannot stop Michigan from becoming a blue state… except for computer-glitch-trickery. We must insist on paper ballots! Out with Emergency Managers! Out with Snyder and ALEC! Out with Union Busting and In with Democracy! And if they can’t get it right, we’ll get it right and write our own Referendum! We will make our own laws. We are the People and we have the Power!

And end this damned WAR! There is hope folks! It’s never, ever, too late to get it right.
